"Where Have You Been" |
WRITE-UP:
The year 2012 will not be completed if you will not have Rihanna on your list. 2012 definitely marked another great musical year for this young R&B diva as she continues to release more smash hits singles. I was happy when Where Have You Been was confirmed as the third single from Talk That Talk. I simply love this track alongside We Found Love. I knew for a fact that this could follow as her next #1 single. Unfortunely, it struggled in the Hot 100 during its reign because of the success of the other pop breakthrough singles. Despite that, this manages to take a spot as high as #23 in my list and even surpasses her fellow hit machine Katy Perry in the list without reaching the top spot. Whenever I hear this song, it is just uncontrollable to show some moves while jamming to this song. Calvin Harris did another amazing and flawless production with this song. As for the music video, I really like the choreography from start till the end. Rihanna shows she can dance consistently. This is not the last Rihanna song in my list. Bet you can guess what song made it to my top 20 list.

22 | DAVID GUETTA F/ NICKI MINAJ
"Turn Me On" |
WRITE-UP:
Nothing But The Beat proves to contain a heavy amount of collaborations from different artists. When David Guetta teams up with Nicki Minaj with Turn Me On, the result is an ear-candy track to my listening pleasure. The beat, production plus Nicki Minaj delivering those catchy pop lyrics all fit well to capture my musical taste. Nicki Minaj's parts especially on the first line is just simply inviting while the chorus is just too damn irresistible. I was satisfied that this was eventually released as a single. This would've been a big hit probably if a more interesting concept for the video was shot. I recommend some choreography from Nicki Minaj and more colorful visuals. The original video is ok; the first scenes were entertaining until we see some alive human mannequins walking as well as Nicki Minaj just standing and walking around. Oh well, at least that didn't affect my appreciation with this song. Both David Guetta and Nicki Minaj had a successful 2012 with their singles. Hopefully, we see more of David Guetta collaborating with today's biggest artists.
2009: TAYLOR SWIFT "White Horse"
2010: RIHANNA "Only Girl (In The World)"
2011: RIHANNA F/ CALVIN HARRIS "We Found Love"

21 | CHRISTINA PERRI
"A Thousand Years" |
WRITE-UP:
The theme song from Breaking Dawn - Part 1 that I prefer would have to go to A Thousand Years from Christina Perri. Out of all the releases Christina has released so far in her career, this is her best effort yet and probably her signature hit of her career. When I first heard this, I immediately fell in love with its melody and lyrics. I can simply feel the emotion that Christina is singing with this song. Just like It Will Rain, I intended to include this song in my 2012 list instead. This is one of my favorite songs of the first two months of 2012 so it definitely deserves a place this as high in my list. A Thousand Years simply is a promise of loving someone even if it takes up to a thousand years. This song is one of the most overplayed songs on my favorite radio station. I did somehow got a bit tired of it at one point but my appreciation for this song got restored easily. Hopefully, we can hear more songs like this from Christina Perri because this type of song really suites her vocals and style.
