I know everyone is excited for the video shoot tomorrow, but I just have to say that 4 is a phenomenal record and anyone that says otherwise is not worthy of my attention or time.

It's the album that got me into B; prior listenings to her previous three albums didn't do anything for me. If it weren't for 4, I probably wouldn't be anticipating this upcoming era or revisiting her discography. I love 4.

I seem to the only one who remembers when B worked with Kings Of Leon and Montreal. It was in the time when she was recording 4. I wonder where those tracks went. Maybe she will use them for 5 since it may have a rock appeal.

I'm glad I did. When Beyonce is making music not to chase album sales or hits, the quality is astonishing (not that her prior albums are bad or anything like that, but I find they're lacking a special something that 4 has). I hope this era she'll be able to reconcile the quality and critical acclaim of 4 with the hits and sales of her previous efforts. The perfect combo. <3

Some think that B doing 4 was a bad idea b/c pop radio didn't support it much and the whole concept of "it had no major hits". They don't think of the positive in 4. She gained a more mature audience for sure. B can defiantly win back her bandwagons but the older people maybe not. And since B is getting older (but she's still so young) I think it's good she is getting an older audience. It makes sense.

it was never actually confirmed if she worked with them but Of Montreal worked on ideas for a track.

I agree. The slower pace and lack of radio friendly songs displays a maturity and willingness to experiment and take risks that wasn't present before... and I think that ~true music listeners~ took notice and appreciated that. I think Bradley Stern of MuuMuse got it right in his review:

...4 is a gorgeous, solid album experience that pays proper tribute to a slice of music history without artificially recreating any one artist’s signature sound.

While the album is nearly guaranteed to go down as the first major misfire in Beyoncé’s otherwise unshakable career track record–the dreaded “artistic attempt”–it’s as much of a guarantee that future listeners will re-visit this record in time to discover that it is, in fact, a gem.

I think time will be very kind to 4; people will look back and re-evaluate it and grow to love it. The music will age well and sound classic -- I think 4 will be a "cult classic" album -- and it'll eventually be seen as one of many highlights in B's career rather than a low.

RIGHT! And that review too was good, I always said people made too much a big deal over the 4 era being too low key. If the album was meant to be as big as her other 3 it would be. B knew it would not be a master in commercial. And that is why it wasn't promoted as well even though the pregnancy was big promo.

A lot of people were coming for Columbia records. B is Columbia's biggest artist. Why would they not promote her? B had something to do with it. She stayed low key for 4 so she could get the over exposure for 5. Makes sense once again

@B3000. I completely agree with everything you said. Ironically i think 4 gave Bey more of an "album artist" appeal than her previous albums despite it being her least selling album. We hear ppl like LMFAO, Flo Rida and Pitbull in the radio all the time but who the hell would think of buying their whole albums? Noone else they would've been the best sellers of 2011 behind Adele.
