The third album needs to be a critical masterpiece, the fourth album should just be commercially successful (and maintain her urban credibility), and then she can end her career on a high note with another masterpiece.

Um I'm not against the next album being a masterpiece but the commercial part has to come first. If this album doesn't re-spark her (urban) career then there will be no point in a fourth or fifth album.

Y'all know I love Nicki, but let's be real, she was jumping on a trend. Her hip-hop material was really fun and she didn't have a care in the world, but the dance-pop was just generic and void of her personality, for the most part. She wanted those hits.

I thought the reason the album didn't come out in February is because Nicki went back and recorded those dance-pop tracks.

No. PTA was recorded in the late-Summer of 2011, as was Automatic. It's ASSUMED, that the same would be for Whip It, and possibly SS.

The album wasn't delayed because of the Pop. It was delayed to record more HIP-HOP tracks. People assume she pushed it back to record the Pop, but really, she pushed it back to record all of the Hip-Hop tracks.

I mean it makes sense considering that's right when SB was smashing but how does the whole "hip-hop only" thing that was originally confirmed in late 2011 fit into that?

I understand what you're saying, Maya, but remember that Nicki works her best under pressure. She has something to prove right now, and the pressure creates all her best material. When she's commercially successful she gets cocky and she forgets to talk about something other than the money rolling in the bank.

So the masterpiece album is more likely to be created after "flopping".

That's definitely false considering carl falk tweeted a couple weeks after SS was released that they just recorded the follow up single (PTA)
