Then you have to slowly market yourself out to not lose your fans and be able to gain an older audience. If Katys target audience was children, then Why'd she release stuff like "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed A Girl" from the very beginning. Not child audience material, so she isn't marketing towards them.
She never wanted to be a Christian rock artist, that is what her parents wanted and would approve of. She wanted to do quirky pop/rock music because that is who she was. She wasn't the clean cut Christian girl her parents wanted her to be. Who says you can't be a good Christian yet release pop music. She may not sing Christian music but she still is a Christian and has said so. There are many artists who are Christians yet sing pop.
Ignore the fans, like artists and music because you like it. Not basing your opinion because of the hard core stans.

She's dressing up like a dumb baby to get attention. That's just my viewpoint.
T.G.I.F. is clearly designed for 10-year-olds to watch. Kathy Beth Terry is ridiculously stupid.
E.T.'s video is basically a damn cartoon. Wide Awake has a little girl in it, and that seems more than on purpose to me.
And though she didn't start marketing things towards children, it certainly became that way.
Either way, recording a song called "Ur So Gay and You Don't Even Like Boys" followed by
songs dedicated to/about homosexuality isn't necessarily appropriate.
I never read anything about her admitting her parents forced her into the Christian Rock industry.
I'm not saying she's a "bad Christian" I'm just saying she's not sticking close to her original ideals.
Makes you wonder.
The songs that aren't ridiculous are gimmicky, it doesn't seem like her, and she literally
reinvents herself to the point where I don't know what she is. When I think "Katy Perry" no
specific image pops into my head, but a plethora of undecided, tossed-away gimmicky images.
It's a temporary fix, but isn't going to do in the long run for any artist.
I don't base my opinions on her because of her fans, I just can never be a strong part of her
fanbase because of them - like I said, I kind of enjoyed her debut era.
