Sales of the legal drug Miley Cyrus is allegedly seen smoking in a video have reportedly trebled in the US since the clip was leaked onto the internet.

Hollywood gossip website TMZ.com is reporting that shops in Los Angeles have not only seen sales of the legal high Salvia significantly increase, but also that customers have been requested "the stuff Miley was smoking".

Hannah Montana star Cyrus hasn't commented on the video. Her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, writing on his Twitter page, Twitter/com/billyraycyrus said: "I'm so sad. There is much beyond my control right now."

The video has led to renewed calls for salvia to be banned. Anthony Adams, a former State Assemblyman for California who attempted to get the substance banned in 2007, said: "It's time for state and federal governments to renew their push toward an outright ban."
