She was the TOP star for like 3 months between November and January of 2009-2010 when Bad Romance came out and in anticipation of the Telephone video Other than that she, along with any of the other pop girls including Beyonce and Britney, havent had any time where they clearly dominated the field in the past six years.

She has more press, greater album sales, greater ticket sales, greater image based branding sales, etc.

If she is only a big star and she is able to achieve all of that, then what is the big deal. No sense for a debate until ARTPOP comes out.

The only way you could portray them as bigger is by focusing solely on the music and sales, and that's really only because she doesn't have a current era - she always does better than both worldwide. If you expand your view a bit past just the music, she's bigger overall.

I think Gaga will fade (in terms of musical impact) more with ARTPOP. Unless the first single is absolutely infectious. Her impact as a star in general will either or rise or stay the same.

I think, to be the top star, you have to be global.

Taylor is not global.

Rihanna is global, but her last album sold 3M copies WW with only 2/5 songs from the album going top 10. If you compare that to BTW, it's easy to see that Gaga's last era was double the size of Rihanna's. Especially considering that her album is now #53 on iTunes and is only in the Top 10 in about 7 countries.

Rihanna's singles success is pretty blinding tbh, it makes her seem 10x more successful than she is.

The industry was ailing then, and it's even worse now. Without that inflation, The Fame would probably be anywhere from around 2.8-3.3M. So with that in mind, for her to just barely miss 2M with an album five years later wouldn't be that big of an embarrassment.

Like.. No. That's not why "LADY GAGA" exists. It's Just Dance, Poker Face, Bad Romance, the MUSIC that makes her a star. She uses all of the other "crap" (not actually crap) to push the music.
