We just learned about those in history. Yah they did. Why would you bring them up? It's pointless. It's obvious the laws messed up their lives. You're just trying to fight more.
I don't give a damn about what you learned in history class. Stop bringing it up.
They havent actually even answer the question though which is off topic.
In most cases, they've stated their opinion on the topic and then it branched out into a topic about slavery. Things like that tend to happen in discussion threads.
And I must say that a historical view on this subject is essential to how we eventually can hypothesize a solution can be made. If you just don't discuss the history and only look at it from a contemporary lens, you will be missing out on the culture that allows racism to exist not only in America, but all over the world.
oh yeah, I've read about that. I've heard stories about cops being told to specifically target black neighborhoods.
There's a book about it that i'm planning to read but I haven't been able to find at any library
Just last week, a cop thought a black guy had a gun when he really had a flash light and killed him. And we won't get started on the amount of times cops have planted marijuana in people's cars in eastern states.

Good. Know your history. But then be able to take a step back to modern times and realize how strongly stereotypes play into day to day interactions among races. I get your point and technically, they were 'equal' as of 1964, but blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and all other minorities are still treated with a lot of inequalities.
We learned about how to reduce negative stereotypes such as racism in my Psychology class this semester. There are a lot of conditions, so they are seldom to all be met. If any of you guys have seen the movie Remember the Titans, I will use examples from that to demonstrate how. In the following, "outgroup" refers to the group being stereotyped against. In the movie, these were the black people who were brought on to finally integrate the football team.
1. Outgroup members have traits counter to the negative stereotypes. In the movie, the African American players were hardworking, counter to what the whites believed.
2. Contact between the outgroup and the ingroup must be supported by the community/respected individuals. In the movie, Denzel Washington (the coach) enforced it.
3. The two groups are of equal status within the contact setting. They were all starters, no one was better than the other before they got on the field.
4. Contact should occur at the INDIVIDUAL level. The roommates were one black and one white, and they were forced to communicate with each other to find out that they weren't so bad after all.
5. Contact should be rewarding/some incentive. If they weren't going to be friendly to one another, they were kicked off the team.
6. Superordinate Goals are accomplished by contact. They needed both the blacks and the whites to succeed and win the game.
I think that the 6th and the 1st are the most important. The minute we realize that we can all work together to make society overall a better place is when racism will dissipate. Also, people who are being stereotyped against need to be willing to disprove those stereotypes to show the world that they ARE indeed to be treated equally! It sounds idealistic (as do all of these steps) but they are what we should strive for.
This tho. I hate hearing "the white man is after me". Meanwhile they continue to do drugs, steal etc.. Do something worthwhile. I'm a big believer of life is what you make it. Stop being a useless bitch and do something productive. We were treated horribly for centuries and that had a chain reaction on society today, I understand that. But sitting back and playing victim will get you nowhere. Get up and do something. Work hard, study hard. See some black people sit on their ass all day and then bitch and whine when sh*t isn't handed to them. Ugh one of the many flaws in the black community but let me not today.
It won't. People will always be ignorant, stupid, etc..
Also it's easier for someone on the outside to tell people on the inside to get over something. That's like telling Aaliyah stans to get over it, or families of 9/11 victims to get over it.
It's just worse that some people act like race is a nonissue now and racism is gone because oh look black president.

Everybody who says that definitely steals and does drugs.

If you start to be the exception as opposed to the rule, eventually the exception CAN be become the rule. That's the only way it can happen. It isn't going to be handed to you. Personally, my grandparents were immigrants and had to work hard to overcome stereotypes so their children could have a better life and, well, they succeeded. THAT'S WHAT AMERICA IS FOR!

There is a minority of people who act like this, but there is also an even larger group who does work and study hard but will never be able to succeed because of their skin color. That itself is terrifying and depressing, and something we should focus on a lot more than a few lazy people who are not representative of anyone.
