When X Factor started in the UK back in 2004 it was very close to being sued by Nigel Lythgoe of the Idol franchise because the show was similar to Idol, the reason they managed to avoid that is the main difference of the show being the mentoring aspect so I'm not sure they can risk getting rid of the mentoring element.
Plus I'm pretty sure Simon wont do the UK Show, although to be fair both shows need some tweaking, the UK show with its judging panel and format to make it fresh for the audience again (next year will be it's 10th series), the US show needs to replace LA (and possibly Britney) and needs to sort out the scheduling and the production which was **** during live shows, I mean compare it to the UK show and it looks cheap.
