Fact: Of my last
11 discussion threads...
10 have been reported. 8 have been closed. And 1 was cleared.

Now, clearly, you know that the majority of those threads are reported simply because "Vin created the thread." That goes without saying. However, we have to curb this "if it's a offensive to one person, it's offensive to everyone" atmosphere that ATRL has unfortunately evolved into. Yes, if it's a hot topic, there will be a heated a debate, whether it be in The Base or in The Lounge -- that's what comes with having a good discussion. There was once a claim to "improve discussion on ATRL," but when discussion is always stifled simply because
one person doesn't like the discussion topic and reports it, it immediately defeats the purpose of
having a discussion, because the discussion thread will be closed 98% of time. Put it into perspective: if you're having a discussion at work about a project (created a discussion thread), and one coworker doesn't agree (one member reports it), that doesn't mean the discussion ends (the thread still stays open).
I don't know. It all feels very unfortunate. Or perhaps I'm expecting too much from ATRL in terms of having or reading a discussion. Maybe "vs." threads in The Base and "Do you kiss with your eyes open" threads in The Lounge is all ATRL discussion is. Because, apparently, to be provocative with a discussion topic and spark an interesting dialogue between ATRL members only leads to the inevitable closure of the topic, because
one person is, without a doubt, "offended."
