If Bionic could barely top 300k and Lotus is going to struggle to hit 200k, let's not pretend that X was the reason that soundtrack scanned Gold. Cher is a force and her fanbase is huge.
Cher's last album released 10 years ago when the market was still good and coming after the massive Believe era has barely cracked a million worldwide so no, it was all thanks to Legend X as usual.
I don't think he means the certification should change, but normally if an artist doesn't go platinum they're either dropped or their budget is massively cut. I think he means if the album is certified Gold then there's the go-ahead for another album.
Considering the population of the U.S, no, they shouldn't lower the Platinum certification.
People are not buying albums because of piracy, that's what they need to fix, not change the certifications.
If they did, 750K would need to be the new platinum. 500K is way too low and anyone even somewhat relevant could hit that relatively easily
That's not how it works. China's population is huge but their certifications are small. Hitting platinum now means a lot more than it did 10 years ago. We gotta move with the times like it or not!

Labels need to change the format of album to make the public interested in buying a physical copy. Artists in South Korea release booklets, posters, and other items in fancy packing to make the album more appealing to fans.
Basically consumers need something new to "consume".
Instead of "Gold is the new Platinum" I would say "7$ is the new 15$".
Lower price for an album, then people will start buying again.
And we know they will still make shitloads of money out of them.
