As conflicted as I feel about Drake's involvement with everything Aaliyah, after the release of this song it became impossible deny that at least something good came out of it. It may be a sad listen, but at the same time it's reassuring in a way. I have no doubt that had she lived, A would have fit perfectly into today's musical landscape and this just confirms that.
This was my introduction to Beach House. The first time around, it's nothing special (at least it wasn't to me), but upon further listens it really does become hypnotizing. That loop; every other element of the production; Victoria Legrand's distant vocals; the lyrics especially. Extremely rewarding once you manage to place everything together.
I know this happened, but like I said I enjoyed the followup much more. I can't say the song personally inspired me, but realistically it COULD have that effect on someone, possibly because it isn't try-hard. Which is always nice. Well sung and well produced.

I think it's very very clear from the beginning what you're supposed to judge this song on. No one aspect of it is particularly good, however it's sweet, and most importantly, CATCHY AS ****. She might have released better songs this year, and this may well have been the beginning of her end, but it was most certainly a jam for several months.
