Guys, you missed my point

I don't mean the colour of her skin. I meant the whole style direction Def Jam gave her in order for her to sell records after the underwhelming start in her career. The "whitened" her up, in many ways. I didn't mean skin wise, but was a little factor as well.

She was a barbadian girl with an island flavor, even the American blacks weren't too invested.
They didn't "whiten" her, they just made her sound more sellable to both the American and later...Eurpoean audience.
