exactly, this is the same reason why aretha, the legend that she is, is still so damn local. r&b and urban music is not as internationally renowned as pop.
tina turner wouldnt even be considered a legend if she didnt go pop. this is the same with many of the other black legends.
The only black legend who I can truly say is very global and iconic without having a pop sound is Bob Marley

I'm not trying to be that way at all. I know that race can play a huge role in success in the music industry. The world does mostly latch onto White Europeans, which explains why K/C/J-Pop artist have a hard time breaking into the west.

I do understand that white people are more relatable to Asians. I just think it's more of the R&B factor that's holding Beyonce back, not her being black. Mariah Carey is very successful in Asia.
