Katy had enjoyed about as much success before Teenage Dream as Ke$ha did with Animal + Cannibal, but I still feel like Katy was a bigger star and more of a household name even back then than Ke$ha's been since TiK ToK. Which is largely thanks to the fact that Katy's got a dream team that seriously never stops hustling for her and landing her huge promo opportunities. She also leads a more tabloid-worthy life, as opposed to Ke$ha, who only ever really makes headlines for being outrageous or looking bad (society's opinion, not mine) at the beach.
The reason people act like Teenage Dream got off to such a horrible start is because it was originally predicted to debut with something like 750k or so and, despite already boasting two number ones by its release date, only did ~190k.
It feels bad to wish she'd go back to looking like that, knowing that she was literally starving at the time, but she did look great.
