Epik High's stage at MAMA was seriously one of my favorite ever now. Not because it was a huge technical feat or anything crazy like that. But...let me just let my blog post explain this.
The symbolism of this is ****ing awesome. Epik High (and Tablo in particular) have been using villain imagery since they were merely cast out of the mainstream in the era shortly before [e], being pushed to the beginning of shows and suffering from poor promotion despite their well-established status as a powerful music group. It continued on this most recent album, but as a new beginning - villains are pretty awesome now. The lessors could never.
Epik High has collectively realized that the solution isn’t bashing pop; it’s getting people to pay attention to you in a pop world. Few people weren’t paying attention to Tablo not long ago - they were doubting him. Questioning his integrity. Going to YG Entertainment seemed like a really bizarre move, but look at what it’s done for him and the group. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen the three of them this visible, with a huge roof-walking hit (“It’s Cold,” featuring the lovely power rookie Lee Hi), and just…happy. They love what they’re doing again AND they’re getting recognized for it. That, to me, is setting a great example and living life to the fullest.
