Grades of my TRACK reviews:
1-3.5 = Unbearable
4-6.5 = Not a fan
7-8.5 = Great, solid song.
9-10 = Amazing(9-9.5) Phenomal(10)
My honest opinion of Lotus:
I've been listening to this album consistently since it leaked, just so I could give an accurate opinion. I listened to it so much to see if the songs were easy to get sick of or of they could soon get annoying and overplayed. That hasn't happened so far...
1. Lotus (Intro)
- 9/10 - The beginning of this amazing intro really gets old, but the further you get into the track, the more you start to love it. I can say I'm obsessed with this intro. A HUGE step up from the pointless intros in Bionic.
2. Army of Me
- 9.5/10 - The fighter in X shines through, almost as much as it does in Fighter, but yet not even remotely close. On a lyrical level, the song doesn't even come close to the amazement that is Fighter, but it does, however give you the same feel and vibe that you get from it. Very great, solid track on the album. One of the very best.
3. Red Hot Kinda Love
- 2/10 - I've noticed there are a few fillers here and there. This is one of them. It doesn't have a solid vibe or emotion, and seems to zig zag all over the place. It can get very annoying.
4. Make The World Move
- 10/10 - Very funky, fun, and lyrically great. It just puts you in a good mood, and I love that about X's songs. Definitely one of the best.
5. Your Body
- 9/10 - Still being blasted from my speakers. It hasn't gotten old yet, and that's definitely a good thing, because X tends to over sing most of her singles, and that makes them get old fast, but Your Body hasn't at all. This song deserves to be higher than #60 on the BB Hot 100, but its stil not a flop in my book.
6. Let There Be Love
- 10/10 - The richer, better looking sister to Your Body.. Must be a single. One of the best songs on Lotus. Amazing pre-chorus. Phenomenal vocals over a slaying beat.
7. Sing For Me
- 10/10 - Very 'Stripped' Amazing verses, stunning chorus. Lyrically phenomenal. I was literally left speechless, and still kinda am. In my top 5 favorite songs on the album for sure.
8. Blank Page
- 10/10 - I want X to sing this song at my funeral. Is that too much to ask? Another song that left me speechless. Phenomenal. Yet, again, very 'Stripped'
9. Cease Fire
- 9.5/10 - This was originally a 7/10, because I really don't enjoy the verses, but the chorus and the phenomenal beat bumped my rating up greatly. Very tribal-sounding. Definitely a favorite.
10. Around the World
- 4/10 - Sounds like an alternate version of Cease Fire. It holds that same tribal vibe to it. Not that good. No high points, no builds or stand out parts. Quite boring actually.
11. Circles
- 9.5/10 - In my top favorites. Very tell off and fun. The verses can be a tad bit weak, but the chorus is fantastic! She sounds like Ashlee Simpson in the chorus. Very much, actually. Luckily, I love Ashlee Simpson, so this song fits my taste. Love this song.
12. Best of Me
- 9/10 - Lyrically great, not amazing, but great. Good meaning. Chorus is fantastic! Verses are great too. Kind of a subtle, tell off type of song. The grandmother of Circles.
13. Just a Fool
- 10/10 - Phenomenal. Reminds me of 'Picture' by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow. A great love song, but with a darker meaning that 'mushy gushy' love songs usually are. Both X and Blake sound amazing on the song. Another in my top 5.
14. Empty Words
- 8.5/10 - Very much like Sing For Me and Best of Me. Amazing song, great lyrics, phenomenal beat. Another favorite. I've noticed there are many favorites on this album.
15. Shut Up
- 1/10 - The ginger step child that no one wants. Simply awful. The first song on the album I find unbearable to listen to for long periods of time. Sounds like a song Adam Sandler would make as a parody.
16. Light Up The Sky
- 7.5/10 - Kind of annoying that roughly 5 songs on the album sound exactly the same. All follow the same trend that Cease Fire set earlier in the album. Tribal sounding, ballad turned uplifting uptempo with a slide of sass.
Grades of my ALBUM reviews:
1-4.5 = Not a good album at all. Nearing unbearable.
5-7.5 = Likeable, but not great.
8-8.5 = Great, solid album.
9-9.5 = Amazing album!
10 = Phenomenal album!
