I don't really have any issues with her making poppier songs tbh. It suits her, she's got a fun little bubbly, quirky personality. Her ballads are amazing, but her poppier songs are just her. The line is where she starts to chase top 40 success. That format is fickle and always changing. If she's worried about radio airplay over there then we should be concerned. Look at Enrique - he had a hit with Hero (rotf) and then had to collab with freakin' Pitbull years later to be relevant again. I'm not down with Taylor Swift ft. Pitbull. She's taken a GIANT step in that direction though by working with MM and Shellback on this album. She was successful without them.

I keep reading about how Speak Now hasn't sold as much as Fearless because it didn't have pop support/hit singles on pop radio. Except....Speak Now has sold more than any of the albums that did have pop support. Katy Perry had more #1s than anyone in the last few years and Speak Now's album sales **** on Teenage Dream.

Essentially Taylor doesn't (or didn't) need massive support from pop radio to sell albums. Or sell tickets. Or have fans.

I think everyone here is okay with her going a bit pop/mainstream, but why the hell is she trying to fit in while she has always been the outsider and succeeding at that? Doesn't she know that she's slowly becoming a joke with this kind of things going on (overexposed and putting generic trash)?

I agree with this as far as pop radio goes. I do think her lack of AC success hurt her. Basically Mine was the only major AC hit for Speak Now and BTD was only a minor hit while with Fearless we had the massive success of Love Story and YBWM there as well as Fifteen doing well too.

I think when a lot of us say we want her to be country and not pop we get branded as thinking she should plant herself FIRMLY over in the country genre and write some songs about tractors and beer with a peddle steel, banjo and fiddle in every single song....when by "pop" we mean "****** ass mainstream generic pop music with a drum loop that could be sung by any number of girls on the radio right now" not really her poppier songs and by "country" mean "more stripped down, real instruments, acoustic/guitar driven, folkier, even if it has a poppier feel to it"

Not necessarily country in the traditional sense, but more singer-songwriter and that type of music just happens to play fine on country/ac/hot ac. She's referred to herself as a country artists and talked about the country genre more times in the last two months than she had in the last 3 years I swear. I wonder how much WANEGBT not doing well on the format affected her.
