My fave is Rihanna, but Toxic was a much bigger hit than We Found Love (both in the US and worldwide).
Pop songs didn't do well in the Hot 100 in 2004, just the same as massive urban songs can't do well in the Hot 100 today. But they're still big hits.
Rihanna's iconic songs are Umbrella, What's My Name? and Love the Way You Lie.
Being iconic isn't just about sales, it's also about impact, how unique and memorable the song is, etc. We Found Love spent 10 weeks at #1, but it didn't have the impact that Love the Way You Lie, Umbrella or Toxic did.
