The 3DS is a 3D enabled DS. That's about all. It's not like, for example, the Gameboy Advance to DS jump. I guarantee that the 3DS will not have a main series Pokemon game in its own format. I'm well aware of how Nintendo, and Game Freak in particular, release their games. Besides all that, there's also the fact that Pokemon has always been a 2 dimensional RPG with the overworld having some perspective changes to give a slight illusion of 3D imagery, and that will not change. Do you see the battles, specifically the in-battle sprites, working in 3D? I don't, and I doubt they'd do a Battle Revolution type game as far as graphics with a main series release as that would be radically different from what every Pokemon fan on the face of the planet is used to.
...3D models in battle would be a huge selling point. You haven't thought this through.
the 3DS is not just a 3D enabled DS
the games are on a wider screen
the graphics are much improved
3DS game cards are differently shaped
try trying to play a 3DS game on a DS
just because a game is on a 3DS doesn't mean it has to be in 3D
Wow, graphics! Wow, bigger screen! Ooh, lack of ability to be played on an old DS!
None of that qualifies it to be placed outside the DS line of consoles. The other DS models featured improved graphics and bigger screens as they developed at all, and the 3DS cards having a notch at the end and being unable to run on old models is simply to improve sales for their respective DS iteration. I'm well aware that a 3DS game does not HAVE no be in 3D, but tell me; what's the point of making a 3DS game without 3D? Sales for the 3DS, that's all.
The 3DS is simply another step in the DS line of consoles, as you will see when Nintendo some day moves on and introduces a radically different console. Remember, the GBA line was succeeded with these DS's that have touch screen capability and dual-screen games, a very large shift in gameplay from the GBA line. As it stands gameplay for 3DS games is largely the same as for DS games, but with literal 3D now.

3D models in a main series Pokemon game would be too far out of character for the series and would ruin the game for a lot of the fanbase, and this is a position I've held for a very long time now.
i bet you think the NES and the SNES are the same thing
and what do you think the next step will be? a 3rd screen?
Stop what? I stated facts. The 3DS is a part of the DS line. There's not much arguing against that.
And I have no idea what the next step will be, but people didn't exactly expect the second screen to be Nintendo's next idea way back when the GBA SP was out. Whatever the next step is it will be innovative, but I don't know what it would be.

The anime Pokemon Black and White will end soon, Nintendo will definitely release a main Pokemon next-year or the year after with a new anime.
This time they won't release it on DS, that would be a HUGE mistake.
Of course if they release the next main Pokemon game on 3DS, it WILL HAVE to be in 3D, just like the 3DS Pokedex.

i wish they would make it 3D but it's very unlikely
GameFreak doesn't make 3D pokemon games
and handing a main series pokemon game to another studio could be a huge mistake

The next main series Pokemon games will be RSE remakes on DS cartridges with BW/B2W2 trading compatibility and no more 3D than the rest of the 5th generation has had. Mark my words & bookmark this.

LazyTendo, as usual.
They won't keep on avoiding it forever, if they don't make a main Pokemon game (in 3D) on the 3DS, it will be on the next one (who'll have even better graphics).
I'm not here for those Game Boys graphics anymore

Call me a purist, but I favor less change in the main series as opposed to more.
But we're in 2012 sis, they can't keep them 1999 graphics forever.
I couldn't adjust easily to a radical graphics change in the main series, and I doubt much of the core fanbase could either. It's one of those things that sort of defines the series and makes it different - it's part of what Pokemon really is, in the sense of the main series.
Wait, were ya'll arguing that the 3DS was a stand-alone system and not assosciated with the DS line?
no one is saying it's not associated with the DS line
but someone's trying to say the 3DS isn't the DS's successor
when it has a better processor, higher resolution screens, better internal hardware, 3D, etc
