Funnily enough, this is the exact same situation, where a song with lukewarm sales is staying on top over a song that is selling MUCH more than it week by week because it was made safe enough for radio to overplay.

I know you hate Rihanna, but it's not the same situation at all. "WFL" topped HDS for its first five consecutive weeks at No. 1 (of course, the video exploded it) selling 231k, 243k, 236k, 227k and 211k, respectively.
When LMFAO finally did overtake it in sales, it got nowhere near the height difference "Gangnam" has had over "Night," let alone "MUCH more". That first week it was 226k vs 209k, and when "It Will Rain" topped HDS the next week, "SAIKI" actually fell back below "WFL" 164k vs 157k.
The two weeks LMFAO went back to No. 1 with 149k and 152k, "WFL" only sold a few hundreds copies less that first week and a couple thousand less the next. The only time "SAIKI" ever had a "Gangnam"-style lead over "WFL" was during the two weeks it actually did end up going number one. So all is well. It's simply unfortunate "Gangnam" has to deal with streaming now.
