The explanation is that airplay shouldn't be the only thing that determines a song to be a "hit," and that it's really radio programmers choosing what is played and not the fans, the same thing many of us have complained about in recent years about the MAIN chart being so influenced (and still is) by radio airplay. He just had a patronizing way of trying to get his point across. The charts still look a mess, and including sales and Spotify to genre charts aren't really resolving the problem. A mess. It just seems as though they are just throwing songs that they think fit that genre of music and moving along. Bye.

He didn't explain a thing, he was just addressing comments that made him mad. Clearly there's not much that he can actually say, this is a change that will benefit some singers in particular but it will damage others in a way. It is just ridiculous and this change comes out when the word "payola" has been sounding with force. I'm not mad though, he's collecting his checks from certain record companies so ....

No, iTunes sales and streaming are fine. The problem i have with these new charts is that they consider overall airplay; billboard does that on the hot 100, if they wanted to create country and R&B hot 100-like charts, they should have used the airplay of just that particular format. Disgusting.

A couple of valid points, but charts are still a mess, especially the part with factoring other format airplay into genre charts

The biggest mistake though, is not having a clear genre separation and allowing clear pop songs like WANEGBT and Diamonds chart on wrong charts.

They should have a person who says "ok, even though Taylor is somehow country artist, doesn't mean all of her songs should be eligible to chart on country chart, especially not those with dubstep"

So, no Billboard, you excuses don't work. The overwhelming response was negative and not just by Carrie fans, by pretty much everyone except Taylor fans.

No, they used to be just airplay based. But actually that format airplay. Now they have added digital sales, streaming and airplay from other formats. MESS.

Nobody seems to understand that, i've been saying this all day and all they care about is defend Taylor or whatever their fave is. This is about charts integrity, billboard has really lost credibility.
