Hero is not that bad. It's a bit bland, but it's not offensively bad. Out too early.

Originally written for Gloria Estefan, but Mariah (or more likely Tommy) decided to keep it for herself. The rest is history, isn't it? One of her most iconic and long lasting songs - she even sang it at President Obama's inauguration.
But that doesn't make it great, does it? It's barely good; in its efforts to reach everyone, it lacks the specificity of Make It Happen or Outside (or even Anytime You Need a Friend), and comes off as a bit hollow.
