"I Used to Love H.E.R. is considered the great Hip-Hop song of all time by many. The song, a story of a woman Common loves, but becomes disillusioned with after they grow apart is a clever metaphor for Hip-Hop.
Standout Lyrics:
Quote:
I thought it was dope how she was on that freestyle sh*t
Just havin' fun, not worried about anyone
And you could tell, by how her t*tties hung
"Paper Planes" by M.I.A. is her only top 10 hit. It was a single from her critically acclaimed sophomore album, Kala. It samples "Straight to Hell" by The Clash. The song is about how M.I.A. thought Americans perceived immigrants.
Standout Lyrics:
Quote:
Some some some I some I murder
Some I some I let go
"The World is Yours" is the final song from Illmatic to make this list. It was the third single from the album. The song is heavily sampled, even used in Jay-Z's "Dead Presidents" (which many thought was the start of their infamous feud).
Standout Lyrics:
Yes it was.
apparently Nas was supposed to do a remix of DP with Jay, and he never did it.
Then with the release of I Am... and Nastradamus (which were back to back weedplates) Most people thought Nas was on the decline. Jay used this opportunity to strike with an extended version of Takeover (which was a Mobb Deep diss initially). Nas replied with Ether, and the rest was history.

Standout Lyrics:
"The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" was the lead single from Supa Dupa Fly and Missy Elliott's breakthrough single. It sampled Ann Peebles' "I Can't Stand the Rain." The video, directed by Spike Williams featured Missy Elliott in a trash bag.
oh, p cool that Paper Planes made it this high, out of all the recent female rap-singles that've been on the list, Paper Planes probably deserves the highest out of them
kind of excited to see the top 10 though, a lot of the classics have been eliminated by now

Standout Lyrics:
Not even top 10? This is downright blasphemous.
I will say the last set was much better even though the rankings are straight from hell.

Oh and Jay cried on radio lol
Ether.
That **** hurt ME. I will never forget the first time I heard that -- I remember, everybody was anticipating what Nas was going to come back with after Takeover. And then Ether dropped.
O. M. F. G. The greatest lyrical skull drag of all ****ing time. And Jay went soooooooo far with his comeback on Supa Ugly ( @Mama Carter making him apologize for the condoms in the baby seat line) and even doing all that he still couldn't **** with Ether.
"The Way I Am" is the second single from The Marshal Mather LP. It was a much darker song than the lead single (which peaked much lower on the countdown). The song wasn't nearly as successful as the previous single, however.
Standout Lyrics:
Quote:
I'm not Mr. N'Sync, I'm not what your friends think
I'm not Mr. Friendly, I can be a prick
