In all honesty, I do believe Rihanna is well on her way to claim that title. There's nothing stopping her. She has all the makings. Let's begin with how she inspired every girl in 2007-2008 to want to chop her hair off to look like her. That's power, It's one thing to like someone's music, but to wanna look like them is another. She then went RED and everyone wanted to try and pull that look off. There's just so much power in her name.
Rihanna is doing very well, she's the most popular woman in the world, owning pretty much every social media outlet, and if she isn't #1 yet on one, she will soon be there with the rapid increase in endorsements, songs, tours, movies, fragrances, clothes, etc..
Rihanna really does connect with her fans more so than some of her counter parts. Rihanna is very "real" she's not like someone who isn't really accessible or untouchable. She's vulnerable, even when she's trying to a hard ass. She's like everyone's best friend. She's real and genuine. She stays true to herself. She's Rihanna, and of course everyone likes a person like that. Even if you dislike her music, you can say what you want, but she's simply real. That's a pop-star. Look at Brit. She had her life unravel in the media, yet, everyone still loves her.
CASE CLOSED.

Obviously. Some artists would probably have broken a leg, had a nervous breakdown or even gone crazy to be working non stop since the early age of 16. She has every right to be the LEGEND that she is after all the hard work that she has poured into her work.
Even after all the negative exposure in the music industry - the criticism, bashings from media, etc, she has managed to emerge TRIUMPHANT and still the BEAUTIFUL girl that she was 7 years ago as seen from the OPRAH interview.
Even after all the success with such minimal efforts (while others had to be in the studio breaking nails learning choreo for some vids nobody cares about), to be able to remain such a person is truly amazing. A POPSTAR with SALES, ACCLAIM and a HEART. LEGEND tbh.

People are seriously beyond delusional if they think Rih's only iconic hit is Umbrella.

Don't forget the iconic If I Ever See Your Face Again in collaboration with the new Beatles, Maroon 5.
Or the iconic "Rockstar 101".
Madonna could never.

No, but then again, nobody really is yet. She's got a decent shot at the title of she keeps up her success and keeps making good music, but Gaga and perhaps Katy will be fighting for the title as well.

Rihanna is a huge popstar and I do agree that she's made her presence known but the bolded parts are reaching.

Hasn't she also sold the most albums (other than Adele, but I doubt Monsters want to bring her up either). She's smart for doing that since the industry is dying she'll probably stay on top. People 30 years from now will check wikipedia or whatever they're using and see that she's sold the most albums/records total. They won't care that she averages less with each release.

If you're referring to getting punched, it's the greatest media exposure Rihanna has ever known. And it was all sympathetic.
If you're referring to anything else, I don't know but her label probably paid someone else to handle it for her.

Umbrella, Disturbia, Unfaithful, We Found Love, Only Girl, What's My Name S&M are all iconic and a part of pop history whether you like it or not. Among others.

He meant broader as in more variety in her fanbase, more different kind of groups like her. While Gaga's fanbase is dominated by the gays & the social misfits (Her entire BTW era is based on this) Rihanna has a broader mass appeal among the GP.

It's not reaching, it was reported, and in one of Rihanna's documentaries, by her hair stylist that the "bob" was the most styled haircut those years cause of Rihanna.
