Certain "stans" being so thirsty for DS to flop just to be proven right should be banned from this thread tbh.
It flopped the day it was released preventing the true third single, I Forgive You, to be released as the smash it is. I've been listening to recent live performances of it and it's so much better than the studio version. The world needs to experience it.

I do think they should've switched it with IFY and just released DS as the winter single but whatever. I think they had a plan about the order of the first 3 singles for the album and just stuck to it.
I know you were never fully behind DS as a single but at least you weren't pessimistic about it throughout the majority of its run, throwing **** in our faces every time it had a negative update or underperformed on radio. Unlike certain other "stans".

This base is making me giggle today. I think my period just started. I'm also eating a lot today too.
Watching Kelly perform Breakaway at the Hollywood Bowl just made me cry. Yes. I most definitely am PMSing. Let me go snort some Midol to prevent the inevitable cramps.
Today, 8/17/2012, we see Dark Side lose .400 in AI going from 40.688 down to 40.288. It has its worst day on Hot AC by losing 28 spins and going from 3193 spins down to 3165 spins. Also, it has its worst day on Top 40 Pop by losing 17 spins and going from 3150 spins down to 3133 spins. I'm afraid no matter how much people like this song, it is reaching or it has reached its chart peak. Very sad.

It peaked at 41 AI, which is phenomenal considering the brooding and lugubrious subject matter and sound, esp. in the midst of summer. Also, it's helped keep the album in the top 65 all this time, and made new fans of Kelly who were used to just hearing angry break-up songs.
I'm sure RCA will deliver a fourth single that is more radio-friendly, which should help keep the album in the top 100 for the rest of the year.

If I understood the WHY perhaps I'd feel better, maybe........4_12_6

They can't afford to fiddle-fart around on this. If RCA has any intentions of supporting a fourth single, they need to get to it and do it.

From all that I have read, it was released at the wrong time of the year and it has a different sound than what is on radio today and it is not a happy song. And another big factor is it has received little or no promotion. If more people knew about this song it would have done much better on the charts. smiley: frown It has had moderate success for being released for the summer. It would have achieved greater success in the fall.
Just like you I don't understand how people could like it so much, (looking at its great ratings on Rate the Music), and it is not as successful on the charts as the ratings would indicate it should be. Perhaps radio station program directors are reluctant to give all-out support to a song that is not like so many other songs that are out today?

I agree naturalwoman, I also believe there are politics at play. Chicago area stations giving away concert tickets and meet n greets in between no doubt and pink playing but they dont spin dark side? Makes no sense.
Which underscores my point, dark side has also been bubbling underneath some big name comebacks. Its a casualty. Too bad
Damn, I wanted at least Top20 Now send 'Get Up' to Pop please :P

Time to think about what's next. Do they go with I Forgive You, Let Me Down or maybe this rerelease is true and release one of the new songs. I'm just sad I thought this was going to got atleast Top 5.

Dang - too bad it looks like this has peaked. Great song, but I just don't think they got it right with the timing. The video should have been released later, and maybe something a bit more interesting would have sparked further interest. Oh well - on to single #4 (my vote is for "Let me down" or re-release!)
Quote:
Sad to see this isn't doing anything now. "Dark Side" peaked at #40 here (peaking at #29 on itunes) and made it to #9 in the overall airplay chart IIRC. It also helped album sales, so all is not lost! Bring on the next single please RCA!

Someone please pull up how this was going to be a smash.

This looks to have peaked on Hot AC as well, which is good for the sake of moving on since there's nothing keeping the song afloat anymore overall. Hopefully single four being released next month isn't too much to ask for, but I don't know if RCA will care as they have 3 big pop diva releases to prep for the fall. Kelly who?

If they aren't going to push the Stronger era no further, they should throw out You Love Me.
The majority of those fans have been following the chart since 2006, and I've been following it since 2008 you would think we would know better then the ones who just joined this year or last year. Nobody wants Dark Side to flop, but we are not delusional as well. So snap back to reality and hope RCA is smart for doing the right thing this time around.

TRUE.
I Forgive You is a hit. Been saying this since then because it's summer, it's catchy, upbeat and generic which will people buy up. it is such a party song compared to emotional and intellectual lyrics Dark Side has.
Still a promo would push this into top 30, top 20 at most
She looked frumpy as **** throughout that entire era.
Lord, she was fat. It was a difficult era to be a stan for her. People always knocking you down cuz you like a fat pop artist. Thankfully, we got stronger cuz of it.

LOL I was apart of the KCE since 07 and I've been "internet stanning" for KC since around that time. Get off your high horse please and get over yourself.
Not once did I say that DS isn't done. I was talking about YOU and YOUR pessimism throughout its entire run. You wanted so badly to be proven right that you basically had a vendetta against the song for months now. Its sad, obnoxious, and honestly, very disturbing.

Yes, I started heavily stanning for Kelly when the MD era started and she just started gaining weight. Those were some tuff times to be a stan.
Even people from KCE (the base of the most optimistic fans ever!) realize the song is done, the fact that some of you can't baffles me

How are your "chart skills" superior to anyone else's? I could site any number of singles (even Kelly's!) that've rebounded after slow starts simply with the passing of time. It's not delusional to think Dark Side can succeed, as it's already done phenomenally well for lacking any promotion, and I sincerely expect more success from it (even without help!).
I genuinely hope something fills that hole missing in your ego soon because I can't stand much more of this.

I still don't think it's anywhere near done but alright
