Now that I think about it, I'm confused on where Taylor thinks this song will take her. This is Taylor Swift who, as we all know, has meticulously studied the careers of countless artists in a variety of genres- to the point that she can tell you what album they peaked on and whether they're an album or singles artist.

Perhaps she's going for a Springsteen Born in the USA type thing by releasing an album designed to have big radio hits?

She knows the industry really well, she has been in it for at least 8 years. Why the hell she chose this direction? We know she's smart enough to choose the right moves. She should have known that people are not here for ****ty songs. It has always been like that. Yes it's a surefire hit, but it also has no longevity. And she should have known that after the Adele's 21 (which is just average for me) slayage, it's easier for a good song to be a hit song. This song is just too dumb lyrically for her standard. This song is NOT her, we know, she knows, and that annoys me to no end. I hate the idea of 'selling out' but she literally did with this fluff.

I don't think that it'd be easy for Taylor to make Adele-like songs and just have it workout for her .
For a lead single that they want to be a hit , it's MUCH easier for them to just do a catchy-pop song that they know 100% radio is gonna eat up .

She could try something like that with the other singles , but for the first single , it was too risky for them in my opinion .

It was like ... a guaranteed smash or going for the Adele-type and see if it's still a trend or not .. and I guess the choice is quite obvious now , they didn't want to take risks .

I just wish it was less repetitive and had better lyrics .

Looking back, she has never been about playing it safe or following the rules. And obviously it worked, that makes her who she is right now. WHY now? Why did she choose to follow the morons? Is she turning from an eagle to chicken? Laughable.

I just don't get it because she has always been so savvy in the past, and obviously cared about critical reaction as well as sales. Before Speak Now was released, critics were questioning whether she would be able to progress from teen star to adult star. So it was a stroke of genius to release "Mine" with its references to adult life. But this time around it's like she made a list of the negative interpretations of her music and made a song built around all of those things.

I was actually shocked when I searched up the lyrics to '' Of To The Races '' , I always liked Lana .. but I never noticed her lyrics and I never heard this song , I just read them . I guess the magical melodies make the bad lyrics unnoticeable .

Thank God she still has her brain working.
And it was just me who sets the bar too high for lead single. I was expecting something between Björk's "Enjoy" and Alanis' "You Oughta Know".
As for the whole Kennedy thing, whatever. It's her life. I have my own life to care about.
