Debuted on her WebChat tonight, Taylor Swift's new single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" is coming and If traditionalists thought any of her other songs were pop, they're going to outright consider those songs traditional classics. That being said, the version sent to country radio clearly has more of a country 'sheen' to it than the one debuted on the YouTube chat and this is clearly a good thing.
Well written and performed, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" features the same trademark snark that we're accustomed to from the reigning digital music goddess and it's doubtful that this single will do anything but become the next hit.
It's also likely to not gain too many new country music fans and likely to alienate some who were firmly standing behind her and all her accolades in country music. There's no doubting that "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" is a good, well produced song. It's just that, after one listen, it feels like she's leaving behind all shreds of country music behind with a song destined to be a big ole Pop hit. That being said, there's nothing wrong with a little pop now and then and clearly, this one will be an earworm and 'guilty pleasure' for many, particularly those in our offices.
