I agree, this whole ordeal of Monsters pushing for the Queen of Pop title is overrating Gaga and underrating artists with far more hits, impact and solid careers like Beyonce and Rihanna
As the Huffington Post puts it:
Quote:
For anyone keeping score, a list of bigger threats to Madonna's sales and chart record supremacy would include Beyonce, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears and, yes, even Rihanna. But, then, it seems most of these people really don't know pop history.

But you Madonna stans are always the ones going on about how you can't be Queen if you've only had monster sales, because Madonna was iconic, smart, revolutionary etc. That's why Gaga is the closest to being Queen - she's had monster sales as well as being iconic, trying to change things etc. None of the other current girls have 'the whole package' (or at least as much of it as Gaga does) which is why none of them are as close.

I'm not a Madonna stan but that article is correct.
The only "current girls" that don't have the whole package are Ke$ha, Nicki and Katy.
Britney has all the makings of queen but she is already pretty much deemed the Princess, which is totally acceptable.
Beyonce has the hits, the impact, the longevity but I don't care what anyone says, Beyonce will NOT be remembered as a pop star.
Rihanna has more than enough hits, impact, longevity (she has been around longer than Gaga) and to be honest, her status as fashion icon is a plus AND she is the only person to have a DISTINCTIVE and SUCCESSFUL new look for every album/era like Madonna.
Gaga only looks impressive just because she rose to fame so quickly, but she has not proved anything as far as longevity. Even Katy has been around longer than Gaga. And Pink, although not the traditional pop star, has more impressive stats than Gaga as well in many areas.
Gaga can GET THERE, but she is NOWHERE NEAR IT yet. A lot of Monsters give her way too much. She only has 2 albums and an EP.
And Poker Face is not iconic. Gaga's iconic song is Bad Romance and arguably Born This Way. Poker Face was a HIT, but what IMPACT has it made? None. Poker Face is not gonna be remembered like Vogue or Baby One More Time or Umbrella or Single Ladies. Even Firework would be iconic before Poker Face. Successful =/= iconic.
All this IMO of course.

Madonna will always be the Queen of Pop. No other pop gurl has had the impact, hits, sales, and longevity that she's had.

Yes of course. A queen's time is always finite. BUT it can't be a forced replacement. The successor must be worthy.

It makes me laugh when people say Gaga still needs to prove herself, or when they say she only has two albums and an EP, or that she's nowhere near the level of some of the other girls. She's managed to shift an estimated 105 million records in four years, won more VMAs than any artist but Madonna, been nominated for Album of the Year for every one of her major works, had a record-breaking debut tour, is on a tour set to be even bigger than that debut, had 11 top ten US singles, four worldwide number ones with over 8 million in sales, and the list goes on and on. I think she's on the other girls' level by now. People say she needs to prove longevity, but she's already outsold the rest of the girls with three consecutive eras. Every day someone says she's "fading" without really thinking about what that means. She was literally so huge in 2009 and 2010 that no matter what she did it was going to be a bit smaller. And yet, even whilst "fading", she outsold every other pop girl in albums and had a single that sold more than that of any other pop girl. Do you really think that she's not at their level?

rihanna is the princess of pop! shes next in line for queen, especially at this rate with all her hits! shes a fashion icon, she delivers hit after hit, she has a new persona every era, and she can succesfully pull off different genres. there names even sound similar, madonna, now rihanna. britney lost her chance after she went crazy and she hasnt been the same ever since, and the GaGa era came and went like a 2 pump chump. no comment on katy. anyway you cant be queen forever. madonna can have the title for now, because it comes with age, and rihanna is not old enough to be called queen.

Is that why Born This Way sold double what Talk that Talk sold, had two more hits, and two less flops?

Hogwash. There's plenty of music from before the 2000s that still holds up today. Not to mention, flooding the public with a massive volume of new songs isn't going to make people forget about the timeless classics of yesteryear. That's like saying, "Gosh, with all these new films coming out, who's going to remember The Wizard of Oz in ten or so years"?

be fair and compare LOUD to BTW. btw was frontloaded, her first single was front loaded and she had 4 straight flops after that. rihanna didnt have to do TTT because she already buried btw with loud. it doesnt matter though, at the end of the day only time will truly tell you that GaGa is DONE, btw your GaGa avi is cute.

It kinda was...
I mean, second highest global album sales of 2011, surpassed only by the juggernaut that is 21... third highest sales in the US... three hit singles, including one that debuted at #1... and now a tour that's seriously raking in the moolah...

Another day in Atrl, another pointless discussion with delusional stans claiming that their fave is the new "Queen/King", that title doesn't mean anything nowadays imo.

Actually, there were three more! They were called "Judas" (top 10 in 25 countries), "The Edge of Glory" (top 10 in 24 countries), and "You and I" (top 10 in 7 countries)!
