The lowdown: After a highly critical review of her off-key performance with Stevie Nicks at the 2010 Grammy Awards (in which Bob Lefsetz wrote that she couldn't sing and had "shortened her career" that night), Taylor crafted this catchy anti-bullying banjo ditty. It served as the third single from Speak Now, reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the country chart. In a moment of sweet vengeance, it won two Grammys of its own, for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance.
The vote: Though it was hanging out in the lower reaches of the top twenty as voting came to an end, six of the last ten voters gave "Mean" a 10, pushing it into the upper tier at the very last minute and making it Taylor's highest-ranking single in this rate.
Best moment: the prominent harmonies on the nearly a cappella third chorus
On second thought, even though I want Hang With Me to win, if Time Machine, Indestructible, or Call Your Girlfriend win this rate will turn out stellar.
In the Country at a Crossroads rate (Tay v. Carrie v. Miranda) it only made it to #25. And if country fans weren't that here for it I assumed it would be knocked out fast in a rate that attracted a more pop oriented crowd.
