Sharapova has been riding the hype of that Wimby victory over Serena for the past 10 years.

It's no hype, she's just that good.
Before her shoulder surgery, she had the best serve in womens tennis right after Serena & Venus. Her 2nd serve was better than Venus though, plus she's excellent off her FH & BH. Matter of fact Serena said one time that she likes to play Maria because her game was like Venus. The only thing she lacks in comparison to them is movement.

Sis, no hype? Come on. Sharapova is good, but after that Wimby victory she was touted as the "solution" to the Williams sisters. Of course, that narrative didn't go quite as planned...
Although Azarenka is quite possibly the best number 1 we've had in forever, Maria at number 1 would seem more fitting. I want her to hold that spot until Serena takes it back when she wins the US Open and Year End Championships this year
