I don't get it either.
Off the Wall is a very good album, but Thriller is just solid, nothing great. Bad is mediocre. Dangerous is good.
Are his other albums that good that I'm missing something?

Try and sing or dance like him. And then you see. There was a reason all those motown legends stanned for him when he was 10. Also unlike most vocalists he connected emotionally with songs lyrically. The man was a born entertainer. You have to remember that when he was a teen There was no equivalent of him. No bieber or JT or Usher. You saw Bad romance video? That was inspired by Thriller.

And no one claimed he was. Michael, like MANY other innovative artists, receives recognition as well. Michael Jackson has been influenced by other artists just like everyone else.
Michael's main influence is James Brown but Michael took his art and went above and beyond compared to anything any other artist has ever done before. He set the standard for music videos and broke down barriers and has influenced an immense amount of artists. His performances were also ground breaking as was his choreography and music. He also had a great, likable personality and was very close to his fans and did a lot of humanitarian work.

It was the vídeos that did it sis. Videos werent like that in 1982. That mini movie music video didnt exist. Also he was simply very popular, same way Katy,gaga and Rih are now. He was Also a brilliant performer. There werent lots back then.

Yeah, I get what he did culturally and for music videos, but musically....
I dunno, I don't really get how people hail him as one of the most innovative/unique pop artists ever. Plenty of Pop stars did more interesting things musically.

Michael Jackson is just ... pop music in human form. Videos, stage shows, vocals, choreography, stage presence, controversy, sales ... he just had it all.

He was the perfect pop star really. Great vocalist, incredible dancer and overall stage presence, strong discography etc. All these things very rarely come together in such a strong package like Michael had/has.
