my base poll about Gawker.com's review was pulled down. there is no poll to vote yes or no for the film! anywho its really sad to see this flop like Battleship or John Carter.
This is not a flop like Battleship and John Carter Those were huge studio blockbusters with massive advertising campaigns that totally flopped. This was a low-budget concert documentary, and even with the big advertising campaign it had in some places, it's a flop and DEFINITELY not in the category of a John Carter or Battleship-level flop.
The movie was cheap, got positive reviews, fans love it, Paramount is selling tickets, then Blu-ray/DVDs, her album sales are increasing, Wide Awake is #1, i don't see the problem
This. At the end of the day, I could care less about the box office. The majority of critics gave it positive reviews, her fans loved it, and it will still make money from the Blue-ray/DVD sales. I loved it
I think this could have been better if she would have been at album #4 or #5, she had a succesful era, but nothing is granted, Bieber is a phenomenon and was someone who can easily do it, but Katy has still a road to prove herself over the long time, no offense though, I like Katy, I just think it was a good move on the wrong moment, if you get me.
The only real flops I see are the other gurls' stans who think about Katy Perry all the time, who write essays about how this movie won't make Katy any money...etc... Just stop, no one thought this would be a huge hit, it was bound to do even less than the numbers we are seeing now. It's not like movie about your fave would do any better.
Ok. If Katy only makes $15 mill, its a bigger flop than Battleship. Battleship cost $209 mill to make and made $300 mill. It at least recoupped and made more. Katy would need to make at least double 12 mill to not be a flop.

Both movies flopped. Batleship flopped harder, tho

How so
Universal has already said they will lose $200M on Battleship. There's no way in hell that Part of Me will lose more. Katy may even gain profits from selling DVDs.... Battleship is the biggest flop of the year, deal with it

Nope. Marketing and promotion costs for Battleship would have been massive. Perry's movie cost very, very little. Everything it makes after this weekend will be money in the bank.

Go through the thread and see the math on how profits work. 12 million does not include the promotional budget, which is estimated at 15-20 million. So she has not even broken even yet.
