Janet didn't play second fiddle to Madonna her full career. They all had their timed of reign. Janet is a Jackson so she is known off if that alone and RN and Janet. were big eras for Janet. And not race, but if Britney was selling R&B like Janet, her record sales would not be what they are. Just look at how massive BOMT and Oops were, practically #1 in every country of their release. Then look at how "Slave 4 U" was received globally. Still a sizable hit, but not of the magnitude of the two predecessors. Britney selling popular music to teenage girls, one of the largest demographics in the world, it's obvious she would have massive sales.

Sound is a factor but how you look is very important also. You have to be able to be marketed to those audiences also. It's no diss to Britney but it is what it is. Britney and no one else can help how they are born

No. Britney has never been credited by any reputable source as having sold 100 million albums.

There was an article that came out like last month for X Factor promo saying she sold nearly 100 million albums.

She's sold between 80 & 90 million albums max.

Her highest selling albums are 26M, 20M, 12M, & 10M. Everything else is under 6M.

I don't know Janet's album sales so I couldn't tell you how they measure up in that department.

Britney has sold more singles I believe. Physical & digital

Janet's career....confuses me. She certainly has the credentials to be a certified legend but it just doesn't feel that way. You think after 15+ years in the industry, you'd hold more weight to the general public and the industry that flashing a tit ring on T.V wouldn't kill your entire career. In contrast to Britney, who damn sure did her best to do that 2005-2007 and still found a lot of success after; such longevity and power is only attainable to few icons and legends, and Janet isn't one of them.

And I'm not trying to take anything from her, she's still a huge icon 'till this day but Britney has her beat in that category.

Britney is NOT an icon NOR is she a bigger one than Janet. Britney is 30 and her career is basically through, Janet is almost officially apart of the AARP club so it's acceptable. Janets career didn't start declining until 2004 when she was in her late 30s. Let's she what shape Britney's career will be in 5 years from now and lets not even think about 16 years

And it's not easy to market R&B music to non-R&B listeners. Janet was able to appeal to both audiences, something Britney was never able to do. That's one of the reasons why Janet has had the superior career.
