I've been thinking about this recently. All her albums are underwhelming.
I'm not the only one who thinks this, many critics have pointed out that her albums are overwrought, overthought, and just too ****ing damn LONG. Even her debut is 3-4 too songs long, and that one is the one where she had least control! I just got done listening to Back to Basics, and it felt like it took three hours.
Why does she do this? Is there a reason for the awesome songs on each of her albums to be drowned out by absolute boring filler or obnoxious ********? We know she can write a good Pop song, but it seems like she just focuses on quantity over quality. Unlike Janet (who also has long-ass albums) she can't really stick to a cohesive theme, so often her albums just seem ****ing aimless.
I don't want to make this thread just to drag her though. I honestly think if Back to Basics weren't a double album and she cut the filler (and that dreadful dedication to fans) she could have an actual Pop classic, almost as good as Back to Black.
What do you think? Do you think her tracklisting and long albums really harm her chances at giving her a classic/solid Pop album, or do you like them the way you are?
If you want to, post edited tracklistings for her albums that make them way better.
Well I think it's because she releases an album every 4 years so it's like she doesn't hold back. Although I agree she should stick to 12 songs and make sure that they are all perfect rather than overdoing it.
Christina loves making 20 track albums. And of those 20 tracks, you have 16 mediocre at BEST songs... I don't know why she insists on doing this. I still can't believe she spent 4 years creating Bionic... There's only about 5 good songs on the album out of like 22.
That's absolutely crazy. The songs don't fit together, there's no common thread throughout the songs to make it cohesive, so it's just a bunch of mediocre madness. Shame.
You Lost Me is beautiful though. Absolutely gorgeous.

Yeah, that's probably a lot of it. I feel like some fat could be trimmed on BTW too.
Hair, HU and Americano should have been the bonus tracks. Bad Kids should have never been recorded and TQ, FOHL and BJ should have been on a seperate B-Sides CD.

I kind of agree with you. The overall shady bitch attitude doesn't help her out either.
Her only album where I think the "too-long" kinda worked was Back To Basics.
She could have some great albums if Stripped and Bionic didn't have so much filler, the latter would be shorter of course.
I hope she does something different regarding that in her next album.

Stripped is the worst/best example of her filler IMO.
You got Beautiful, Fighter, Can't Hold Us Down, and Make Over, good songs.
Then Walk Away is okay too.

Sis, the only songs I like on Stripped are Walk Away, Loving Me For Me, Underappreciated, and Get Mine, Get Yours.
On B2B, it's Without You, Mercy on Me, Trouble, Understand and Save Me From Myself. My boyfriend always sings that one to me.
I don't even wanna do Bionic.
