That one really isn't hard... According to evolution, a chicken must have evolved from something. So the first creature that we would call a 'chicken' now, evolved from another egg-laying creature. So, the egg was first, laid by the creature which is only just not a chicken, but which hatched a chicken
Wherever the boundary of what is a chicken and what isn't is, I don't know, but that doesn't matter, it works for wherever the boundary is.
