Don't be too worried. I'm not as smart as N&S about this stuff, but I'll give my two cents.
Unfortunately it's not looking too good for DS in the UK. Even with a huge amount of airplay, it's been in the 30s on iTunes. From now on, I think we'll only see a decline in DS on radio. However, one good thing is that the sales of the album have definitely picked up and are holding steady. They will soon decline again as DS loses spins, but there was at least SOME impact.
I have high hopes for the US. One thing we can count on is this going straight to number 1 on Hot AC, and it looks like that's what DS is going to do. The song is rising on iTunes with the small increases in airplay. Hopefully when it does well enough on HotAC or when Kelly does some promotion, it should spike in sales and Pop will jump on board. That being said, it's NOT doing badly on Top40, it's just rising really slowly. Unlike in the UK, I'm not worried about this song dying off anytime soon. Plus Kelly still has a round of shows she could be promoting on: Ellen/Kimmel etc.
It's actually looking quite good for Canada. DS is in the top 100 on iTunes and we've got some major promo coming up. I've got high expectations for that.
In Australia, I just can't be sure right now. I know that what impacts the UK and US usually crosses over to Australia, so I think DS's success is in the air for the moment.
Let's not panic guys. Even if DS flops, I don't think RCA will bail on the era. I think IFY is a contingency plan, and I take comfort in knowing that.
