usher is the type of artist that will more than likely go unscathed by these numbers.
he can go away for 4 years, then drop a really hot song & have the whole country back on the usher bandwagon.
& these numbers arent even horrible.
from today, to 2 years ago when he released his last album, record sales have declined gradually + he did no promotion + his "lead" single climax was more or less for urban radio + his single "scream" is basic
The album isn't full of cheap Guetta songs at all, but I'm hoping WY didn't leave a bad impression on people.
WY was mediocre enough, but DJ Got Us and others were truly terrible. I knew they wouldn't gain his career even if they became hits at the time. I don't doubt that his new album isn't bad though.
We'll see what happens because those assumptions are just as valid as the ones that were predicting he would sell at least 200-250k first week. You never know.
No less valid/invalid than the assumption that this is another Bionic, which brings us full circle.
The album is very good, but it's true. Usher's only hits the past few years have been More, Dirty Dancer, DJ Got Us, Without You... Pretty awful. The same music that Flo Rida and Pitbull make, and they don't sell any albums either.
But as I said, the album is amazing. I love it. But he needs to release appropriate singles to EVERYBODY, so that the general public realize what his album is like. This means no Euphoria I'm afraid, at least not for a while. Climax is good, but only urban fans know the song. He needs a song that's actually representative of his album to be a pop/mainstream hit, and there's lots of potential on there imo.
I'm surprised he didn't have high Urban support. I mean, Climax is #1 on Urban for 8 weeks, being the biggest song of the year for Urban.
I mean, Urban propelled Lil Wayne to #1 with almost a million first week, so how does Usher struggle to get 150K
Usher just needed better timed promo. Yes, he did Today Show, Billboard Awards, but it was TOO far from the album release date. It's good to promote singles and not wait until the last minute, but he needed more promo that put emphasis on "USHER HAS A NEW ALBUM OUT!"
