That was really their only successful album though. I'm not trying to discredit them. I'm saying they aren't the monster sellers that everyone makes them out to be. That 250-300 million figure is just, bizarre.

They're monster sellers WW, even without big US support. The 300 million figure backs that claim up.

Again, they were the first group from mainland Europe to crossover to America. And they didn't like traveling, so they didn't promote much here. They had a lot working against them, and they have stilled created many classics that the majority of Americans know (and inspired plenty of musicians after them).

Socially means who has done the most good for society and had the biggest impact on the world. Who made a difference. (Not necessarily through music)

I understand culturally as pop culture and entertainment.

I pulled that number out of your post. They're cited in the upper range of 200-300 million usually, that's generally agreed upon. Wherever they fall in that, it's amazing.

Although I do think John Lennon's advocacy of peace and love was (and is) more influential than anything MJ's done "socially" or for charity. So The Beatles might have the upper hand in that department also. They really are the greatest aren't they.
