Oh lord, you got me in E3 analysis mode. I'm sorry for the long ass post.
Well, first: Grand Theft Auto V's gonna happen at E3, GamesMaster Mag goofed up and accidentally put them on a list that was supposed to be kept secret. I think that it comes down to GTA V's gameplay. Rockstar has such a ridiculously high bar to cross for Watch Dogs', it's ridiculous. The game has gotten so much buzz so far (specifically for its graphics); not to mention, it's open-world just like the GTA series. Makes them bitter rivals at this point.
GTA V's gonna be great, no doubt, but graphics are what's on people's mind. No doubt GTA V is gonna be a great game and have fantastic gameplay, but people wanna see Rockstar, the premiere video game company of beautiful open world games, deliver something that topped the surprise debut of this incredibly beautiful game that is in every essence the most top-notch and realistic graphics console gaming has yet to bring us.
Another thing is the curiosity of a brand new, never-before-seen series. The Last of Us and Watch Dogs are arguably the biggest buzz-creating titles so far; Last Of Us for its viral campaign earlier this year and Watch Dogs for its sealed-tight surprise release at the conference. They both have proven to blown away the E3 conference.
Combining the fact that Watch Dogs was a completely unexpected title and the fact it shocked us even more with gorgeous graphics to die for as well as really solid gameplay makes it a hard game to beat. As we know already, GTA V will have addictive and fun gameplay that will almost guaranteed meet up to if not surpass Watch Dogs', just cause Grand Theft Auto has been a prime example of amazing gameplay for 15 years. The real question is will it take the look of the series even higher than Watch Dogs. It's the grand feature of Watch Dogs in people's opinions. I MEAN, even the rain drops in slow motion even had smooth detail. How the **** do you top that?
Long story short: GTA V's graphics need to be amazing to maintain an advantage over Watch Dogs cause graphics is on the gaming community's mind after watching it. In any case, they'll both be incredible games and will likely have great success in both sales and critical reception, not only in E3 but at release time.
Also, Watch Dogs has officially been listed to be on the 360, PS3, and the PC. A lot of people thought it was too good-looking for the current-gen consoles, including me, but it is infact going to be on the current consoles. Which, to be quiet honest, makes it even more of a threat.

waiT, I thought the Watch_Dogs press release came out with no platforms listed?
Rockstar's cult following will definitely bring out dem sales regardless of the graphics tbh.
I was kinda let down by the graphics in the initial trailer release because they look like GTA IV's ones. I do however think that Rockstar is trying to make this their best game ever (hence them making this their biggest map yet).
This game doesn't actually COMPLETELY give me GTA. It looks like a different game with sandbox incorporated but you can definitely see the similarities with the lighting and such.
Oh and I'm wondering when Rockstar plans on letting the cat out of the bag with this because I've been waiting ALL these months for it. They've been waaaaay too secret and hush hush about this for too long and it's killing me. There's been so many rumors and supposed *leaks* every week and its eating away at me lmfao.

It didn't at first, but its press site listed them as consoles.. at this point in time. That translated into what gamers wanna hear is: the next-gen consoles haven't been announced to us, therefore we can't make it into next-gen games. When/If they announce them, we'll upgrade it.
The sales of GTA V will in every way be very strong. No doubt in the world. Watch Dogs, I'm not sure what sales would look like. But I think it'll make an impressive run. The real question is will Watch Dogs overshadow GTA V in E3, cause it could really help Watch Dogs get some press support which will get more people interested, thus bigger sales for them.
I wouldn't be too discouraged by GTA V's trailer, though. I think the graphics are gonna be much better than GTA IV's, even if GTA IV's alone were really really good (especially for the time being). But Rockstar is being really secretive, which could be either really really good or pretty damn bad. If it turns out GTA V is super polished and really takes in a breath of fresh air into the GTA series as they've consistently done in the past, then I wouldn't be worried about it.
Honestly, I would keep a REALLY close eye on both games. I'm betting both will be in the top 4 most critically acclaimed games of 2013 (assuming both are release in 2013, which basically given).

R* has been really good with pleasing it's fans though. They had a listing up for a fan to come and test out GTA V online the other day actually. They do need to start releasing more info though like they've promised to see reactions from the public on how to improve the game.
All I want to know is if there's multiple playable characters, what the map looks like, the driving mechanics, and a tidbit of what the story is about.
What day this week do you think they'll be making the splash exactly? Because I'm interested.
So I'm doing a recap blog, hopefully of all of E3. It'll include links to all of the conference stream and the individual video games as well as a little bit of personal commentary (and a few rants and rambles). I did it while watching Teen Wolf, the E3 trailers, and listening to the Nicki Minaj v. Hot 97 interview, so it took me forever to finish.
At the end of E3, I may do some sort of review of the highlights also.

Oh man, I wanted to follow all of this but I couldn't keep up - thanks!.
