Let the top 10 commence!!
#10. "Paranoid" by Kanye West
Kicking off this year's top 10 is a song that hasn't even been officially released yet. Bought Kanye's new cd about 2 weeks ago, and knew that track #6 was the standout. Miles ahead of the boring "Love Lockdown," "Paranoid" just makes me want to throw together an 80s themed party. Hoping that the soon-to-be released remix won't tarnish its heat, but if its got Rihanna on it, what can go wrong??
#09. "Bad Girl" by Danity Kane
If I gave an award for the single I'm most shocked did not "take off" this year, it'd have to be bad girl. After the hugeeeeee "Damaged" (which I - almost - put here instead), I thought "Bad Girl" might even top it. The comic book hero video was hot, premiered on FNMTV sometime in July, but then - it went nowhere?? Oh well I'm still a big fan. It's yet to be seen what the future holds for the five (or three), but for now they can bask in the glory that they are the highest charting females of my year end countdown...*wink, if you don't count "one" collaboration.
#08. "Violet Hill" by Coldplay
Thought about putting "Lost!" here too, but in the end the drummers drumming placed "Violet Hill" in at #8. Great song from a strong album - just too bad it has that horrible "Viva La Vida" on it.
#07. "The City is at War" by Cobra Starship
Two years ago, the boys and gals of Cobra topped the year end countdown with their ode to Samuel L. Jacksons' snakes. This year, they again returned to the top 10 - but had to settle for six spots lower.
Must mean we got a really good top 6, and its on its way.
Need some help figuring out who it might be??
All, but one, have never been in an year-end top 10.
In fact, four of the 6 have never been in a year-end countdown.
One of the top 6 has a sister who will appear in my close calls - she finished at #37.
and three of the top 6 are hip hop anthems.
