Ahead of its Monday release, Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" remix leaked for fans' listening pleasure. Featuring southern rapper Khia, the revamped track has some additional verses after the bridge from the femcee.
"I wanna be your lady/ And have your baby/ And be your partner/ And meet your mother/ Cause' I'm that chick/ And I'm that bitch/ That you need on your side/ So you can run this ****." before giving some other extra verses.
The remix is expected to boost the sales and airplay requests of Katy's single and push it to the top spot of Billboard Hot 100. If she climbs to No.1, she will score a seventh "Teenage Dream" No. 1 single. Her streak was broken by her sixth single, The One That Got Away, which peaked at no. 3. She is currently tied with Michael Jackson whose 1987's "Bad" had also generated five separate No. 1s, for most no. 1s from one album. “Part of Me" is a concert movie, a tour documentary and "Behind the Music"-style biography all at once, a balance it strikes perfectly. Its narrative is clear: in 2011, Perry sets out on the biggest tour of her life as her sophomore album, "Teenage Dream," ascends the charts and scores a record-setting five No. 1 singles. To casual observers, Perry's rise might seem like an overnight success, a myth the film is intent on squashing. "Part of Me" peels back the fairy tale, showcasing Perry's religious upbringing, her years of label struggles and finally, her divorce from comedian Russell Brand, alongside powerhouse performances from her "California Dreams" stadium tour and gushing footage of her adoring fans.
"Part of Me" is ultimately an underdog story, the tale of a girl who wouldn't give up on her own teenage dream. It's an aspirational worldview shared by Khia, who saw the film and showed her support by contacting Capitol and asking to be a part of her legendary career. Throughout the film, Perry is portrayed as a indefatigable worker, the "CEO of Katy Perry" -- and if that's the kind of savvy and hustle that inspires the young fans, and fellow females, like Khia, that their biggest dreams may be yet to come true. The new remix will be available on iTunes and sent to radio stations on Monday, July 23rd.
