Well apparently the director was going for more realism, so maybe he wanted her to literally sound like she was crying. But for me it kind of ruins the song, like, there should be a balance between emotion and singing technique, otherwise why bother making it a musical, I'd rather it just be a normal film. But I'll have to wait and see, I'm sure there is merit to the director's decision and perhaps the full song really is better.
