Taylor Swift reveals next album will be out in 2012
Quote:
It's been almost a year since Taylor Swift released the chart-topping Speak Now, which included the hits "Mine" and "Back to December." Fans won't have to wait much longer for the next country-crossover hits: Swift's next album is due sometime in 2012.
During an interview with The New Yorker, Swift said she recently decided that life is "about achieving contentment ... you're not always going to be ridiculously happy" — and that newly discovered viewpoint is leaking into her new music.
Throughout her career, we've seen Swift grow from a wide-eyed girl who sings about puppy love to a been-there, done-that young woman who understands heartbreak. Her new songs certainly fit into the progression. "They're sad, if I'm being honest," she said of the 10 songs she's written so far, adding that a recent track she wrote "is about moving on."
Of her abilities as a vocalist, Swift said singing is really just the vehicle to get her ideas out into the world. "I write songs, and my voice is just a way to get those lyrics across," she said.
In an interview with MTV News earlier this year, Swift said her ability to express her feelings in song has grown nearly as much as she has as a person. "I think retrospect will tell a lot. Years from now, I'll look back and go, 'I didn't know anything then,' " she said. "I had this song called 'Picture to Burn' that's talking about how 'I hate your truck' and 'I hate that you ignored me,' 'I hate you,' " she explained. "Now, the way that I would say that and the way that I would feel that kind of pain is a lot different."
Until Swift does put out new music, her fans can look forward to a concert album and DVD special called "Speak Now World Tour - Live," dropping November 21. It will include live versions of tracks like "Mine," "Story of Us," "Mean" and Back to December."

The 21 of 2012 is coming
I read the full New Yorker article, and the author made Taylor seem like she could be depressed...
- constantly talking about heartbreak
- the fact that her new songs are sad
- she was "on the verge of tears" on a few occassions
- she listens to sad songs, and tends to write lyrics to sad songs on her arm for her shows
- I think the quote about "life being about achieving contentment" is especially telling
I'm just speculating, but it seems possible...
Also in the article, Taylor said that she won't be taking the "dark and sexy" route to make people think she's grown up... I love and admire her more for this...

Some guy tweeted recently that when Taylor was in Nashville last, she played nearly an hour and a half's worth of music for her label head... I think she's written more than 10 songs, but only 10 of them are actually "on the tracklist" for the next album at this point.

Giving me life.
I think this may be her breakthrough album as a more serious songwriter. She normally releases a new album every 2 years anyways. I'd say it will be a fall release again.

I genuinely think she is going through a phase where what the media says it getting to her, that she has found that a lot of guys will only want to be with her for their 15 minutes and that she is having kind of a hard time with her label. I think it is obvious that they have been entirely in control of her single choices as they have all been the...safest songs when she needs to show the public some versatility.
I don't want her to drop her nice girl persona but I hope she starts to publicly stand up to her critics and to her label in a way that isn't tacky and always classy. She clearly hasn't been into this era a whole lot. She lost enthusiasm before March this year.

March was the month the article cited for Taylor looking teary-eyed and talking about heartbreak... Tough break-up?
I tend to agree with you regarding the media and public perception of her... She's not invincible, and she doesn't pretend to be... She's a very emotional person, and I think the criticism gets to her...
However, I kinda disagree about the singles... yes, they've all been "safe," but Mean was destined to be a smash on country radio, and Sparks Fly was cited by Billboard at the beginning of the year as one of the "5 best could-be smash hits." Story of Us shouldn't have been released though. The problem with the album is that most of the best songs are too long for radio, and radio edits may not be the best for them... I think there's still hope for 2 or 3 more singles from Speak Now, and Enchanted, Speak Now and either Better Than Revenge or Haunted are probably the most likely contenders...
Her label has been a mess ever since they took on Rascal Flatts...

I have a feeling that she kind of wants to end this era though, it may have become associated with bad feelings for her. I agree with Mean but SF was the most half-assed release...it should have been the lead single to be quite honest or at least the second. SOU was a mess and her team just gave up on promotion, I don't think her heart is in it.
I see SF being the last official single, she may do some half-assed **** with the perfection that is Enchanted but I feel angry that her label have wasted so many potential hits and chances to show her artistic growth. They are going for the songs that sound like they could be on Fearless and there aren't many of them. I see the tour ending and her releasing an album maybe 2-3 months after that.

the part about it being the 21 of next year was a joke, but Taylor's album sales will continue to dominate over pretty much everyone else in the industry...

Enchanted is up to 595 on iTunes from the Wonderstruck promo alone... add airplay and a proper music video, as well as her performing it at the CMAs next month (she's a confirmed performer), and it has excellent potential... She said in a different interview that she's still excited about putting out more singles from this album and that she was so proud to have these songs she wrote completely by herself out on the radio.
I think Enchanted, followed by Speak Now could send the era out strongly. Then, when she's done with the tour, she can finish up the next album, which I wouldn't expect before August at the earliest. Fall releases have worked incredibly well for her, and I can't really see them changing that.
