[Summertime Love]

Over the years we had more and more albums in our monitoring, at the moment more than thousand. On the other side the global album sales shrink for many years, intensified since about three years due the very successful and still rapidly growing streaming sector. A comparison: exactly ten years ago, in the week 24, 2006, Sean Paul's 'The Trinity' ranked at no.40 with 40,000 sales. This week Keith Urban's 'Ripchord' is at the same position with only 15,000 sales. It's very, very difficult, to create a reliable Top 40 chart furthermore with such low sales. Moreover it needs too much time to monitoring more than thousand albums every week. That's why we make a drastic change, from next week on, we'll publish a weekly Top 10 with more informations to each album...

This change affects only the Album Chart, the Track Chart stays a Top 40 list, based on single-sales, digital sales, streaming and airplay.

Does this mean that streaming will be incorporated to the albums chart?

From what I read, I guess no. It only means more and more albums will be anti-present from the chart which will be converted in a top 10 chart only.

This just is further proof that they just do some estimations with actual data + whatever they feel adding up to that data.

They usually leave the top10 due to new releases then bounce back.

I love MusicCharts and how inflated their numbers are but they are not reliable at all. Their numbers are usually higher than what IFPI reports at the end of the year.
So now, we only need to wait for IFPI to publish their reports to get accurate sales.
An alternative would be to track certifications but most of them now incorporate streaming, so it's messy

They should've stopped the songs charts which is very unreliable and only focus on the albums chart

I knew MT's demise was on its way. Sales are a gutter and the thing is – Mediatraffic is NOT some professional real chart company. It's a chart compiled by one random man who has absolutely no ties to the music industry. That being said, he can't include streaming data since he has absolutely no way to get Apple Music data and he can only get data from Spotify on their Top 200 Chart (which wouldn't work for adding streaming to albums) therefore he has no way to really track streaming.

But he really needs to just destroy the Singles Chart which is a complete joke and literally a chart that holds nothing and focus more on the albums chart which actually has a purpose since people need worldwide album sales estimates.

& since when has Mediatraffic used streaming on the singles chart?
