its a cycling event called keirin, it's not a new sport but it's emerging in popularity. basically theres a pacer in front of all the riders and they're not allowed to overtake the pacer as long as it's on the track (which it is until the second-last lap). its weird but i think the point is so riders have to be really tactical in where they order themselves in the first few laps cos in the final 2 laps without the pacer its really like a winner-takes-all kinda race
