In Louisiana, the last thing we need are for all these politicians coming to the area politicizing it. If they want to help, speak more about the devastation in the area to the news, organizing the country to help in whatever way they can to give relief and support. I'm FURIOUS at the lack of media attention we have received. The levels of destruction that is out here is horrifying. The only one who should be visiting the state at this time, assessing damage, is President Obama. 50,000 homes are impacted. I have friends, co-workers, and family that loss their homes and all their possessions in them. Memorabilia that just can't be replaced. Thousands of cars are damage, too. My best friend and her husband had to be rescued by boat because their house flooded up to 4 feet. Subdivisions wiped out. Neighborhoods spanning MILES under water across the southern region of the state. Playgrounds are under water. Schools are under water. Highways and Interstates are under water. Local businesses are destroyed. We basically had a hurricane, but without the heavy gusts of wind.
What's even more sad about this whole thing? Several won't even get the money they need to rebuild their homes because they don't have flood insurance. Several areas that aren't flood zones were drowned. We literally had a what they're calling, "once in a century flood." The damage is devastating. I-12 was shutdown because portion of the interstate was under water. People trapped and can only be either rescued by boat or air (helicopter). Other problems that are happening are areas that weren't originally flooded are getting flooded because the water is receding in certain areas and are making their way to the bodies of water, creating overflow. My uncle's house got two feet of water and that came an entire day after the storm hit because the water made it's way on down. It'll take weeks for the water level to get back to normal levels again.
Trump flying down will do nothing. He should direct supporters to donate to local charities. Have non-perishable food items and donated clothes sent to the shelters housing thousands of displaced citizens. I had to help gut 3 houses the past few days, with more to come this weekend. I can't say enough how devastating this flood was

If Trump wants to truly help, don't come here ranting and raving about party politics. This could be a time to show leadership; show up, assess, and address what he can do to provide support. He has legions of followers hanging on every character on Twitter, tweet them to donate or volunteer. Create a fund for donations going to a charitable cause in the area. Come up with solutions on what can be done for faster responses when dealing with "red tape" being worked around before anything can be done.
