MILEY CYRUS

I agree completely with you that Miley took steps to sway from that clean cut image of Disney stars. However, other Disney stars have done it in the past, like Hilary Duff for example. It’s part of growing up and growing out of that Disney life. However the other Disney artists have not done it up to Miley’s standards. The song is an excellent choice, period.

I think this round fit perfectly for your artist. Can't Be Tamed was the rebellious Miley nobody was here for, but she still did what she wanted regardless. Your essay was good also.

NO! Don't take my comment as an insult! Take it as a compliment! The only reason I said "total BS" is because Taylor hasn't done anything rebellious and I know you had little to work off of, it was more of a joke.

Your artist choice makes it nearly impossible to complete this task. I do agree that she doesn’t fit the true county genre completely because of her pop style too. But honestly, she wasn’t born a country girl who was raised in Wyomissing, Pa. She did not rebel truly against country style music, it just happened that way that she had pop genre following from the large fan base composed of many teenagers, especially young girls. I think your choice of song is not commendable because she have done similar and better songs.
|
okay firstly, i disagree with most of what you said.
have you heard her debut album? its pure country. and she moved to Nashville when she was 14 so she did have country roots. and WANEGBT is not at all like what she has done before... she has always had pop influences in her songs since YBWM but after The Story Of Us, this was her second(and first major) pure pop song. its a bbblegum pop song and she has never done that before. and it was a kind of rebellion coz she was really restricted by her country roots and peers and was highly critisized by some for trying to bring pop into country, but with WANEGBT she broke out of those restrictions and did what she wanted without trying to please everyone. so, i understand my entry was not perfect in terms of presentation, but it was on point with the round's theme!

EVANESCENCE

I agree with many things you mention, however I think you based Evanescence on one song “Everybody’s Fool,” where you could improve on it by mentioning their other songs. They are more than just one song.

So your essay was well written but I feel your ideas could've been more thoroughly researched. I don't feel that the song necessarily fits the round, I honestly feel both songs could be up for debate on their intent. But regardless, the essay really boost your score.

LANA DEL SLAY

Lana has captivated many people’s hearts, but these people seem not to fit in the mold of the normal society. Her style gives her this edge. She brought back the classic era of fame, a beautiful white blonde girl, and singing sad love songs. Though her songs, what I feel, rebel our current era. Her music makes us want to go back to the classic era of the mid-1900s where music was less repetitive and less electronic / or techno-dance based. I think the song choice is great, it really shows her free style. She also did not use male models but common bikers in her video. She stayed true to herself and did not follow media’s norm of making a typical video. In short, the song “Ride” is rebellious, Lana on the other hand, not so much but I have to give you this, having a title born to die and singing sad songs and make it enchanting hits, she is doing something right to rebel against pop/dance songs.

I feel like your perception of rebellion is the closest to mine. You didn't write how the others wrote about rebellion, which is a good thing. This is the same thing I would have wrote if I chose this artist.

Britney is a typical schoolgirl gone bad, a sexed up blonde, a pretty Barbie gone deformed. I used to love Britney Spears but her songs lack one thing, major changes. She doesn’t rebel much to others’ standards because many people have done it before. Sex in music sells so she changed her style to sell and keep her in place. The song is great though because it is makeover from her past image(s) and her album sales showed that. Even though I don’t think she is rebellious in nature but her songs are great; you don’t to be a great rebellious person to be a great entertainer, though.

Here is my one issue with this. I feel your performance video and subject matter for Britney should've revolved around when she bared it all on MTV with that skin toned suit she wore performing Oops...! But overall your essay was decent and I feel you could've done a lot better, it's Britney freakin Spears!

LAST, BUT NOT LEAST
SHAKIRA

Personally I think Shakira is over all the place. She had phases where she’s rebellious. One thing to note though is that charitable / being a philanthropist doesn’t equal rebellious because many celebrities and rick folks do that, not just musicians but actors/actresses, businessmen, etc. Her style did change I give you that, but which artist doesn’t do that. I mean everyone has to evolve. But I think Shakira’s charitable level is above others and she is way more dedicated than many typical celebrities. She really cared about the world. Many songs of hers are rebellious in nature. You can see it in her videos. She is not afraid to get down and dirty. She tried to shock people with her style. “She Wolf” is an example. She also posed for Playboy for a charitable cause. Your song choice is a good one.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about your entry, I feel there's plenty of examples of Shakira being rebellious especially the transition from Oral Fixation Vol 2 to She Wolf would've been an interesting example of her rebelling. Plus I feel your essay lacked a bit in substance that some of the others had. I hope you do a lot better next round.
