I know it sounds like a feeble excuse, but this is worth remembering. Probably thousands missed the few songs at my show. People were still happily drinking away in bars and only rushed when they heard the music.
I don't think you are aware of the fact that the size of the stage has an influence on the amount of seats that are actual for sale. That being said: I am not trying to prove to you that Lady Gaga did indeed sell out the stadium, because she obviously didn't and neither did Neil Diamond.
There are still areas that have empty seats, especially in the back. You may also notice that there are, what I assume to be big black cloths, on a few sections. This means that the artist or promoter or venue can actually decide which sections are up for sale. The point I'm am trying to make is that not every arena or stadium has a certain number of tickets that can be sold in order for the concert to be considered SOLD OUT. If varies heavily depending on the stage or the other factors mentions above.
