I totally agree with this. Obviously I'm a Gaga stan and loved (x1000) her appearance on the music scene, but I hate that it made everyone else think they had to be "weird" for a bit... it's a certain shtick that works for certain artists, not everyone has to be over the top.

Using your example, even if Whitney was "safe," she had an absolutely incredible voice and made great music. That's not boring at all! For me boring artists are people like Adele or Kelly Clarkson--not because they're boring people or don't have exciting lives, but because I literally find their music boring. Adele's voice is way overrated and I think the music they both make is middle-of-the-road "meaningful" pop.

Someone like Fiona, on the other hand, leads a very boring life but has a unique, gripping voice and makes truly captivating music. Now that's not boring at all.

I agree wholeheartedly I just appreciate music from all across genres and generations, different images etc...

Hmm, I have to say Ellie Goulding. I do stan for her but I don't obsess. She's cute etc, and I like her music more than Marina's, but personality-wise she's overshadowed by her to me. She's not so outspoken on important issues to me, like feminism, so maybe that's why.

To be honest, I don't think the others are more interesting. They just act like it. I don't think Gaga sleeps in her costumes. And I think partying every night, although it sounds fun, can be really draining. There is less glamour than we actually want there to be, so why act like there is?

I don't think that any pop star, is really interesting for that matter. The really interesting people are the artsy ones in indie music. Florence. Janelle. M.I.A. Listen to their lyrics. They have a point.
