19 had sold well in the UK, but wasn't a real big-seller before 2011. 21's HUGE success obviously made a lot of people interested, that's why it sold a lot.

Born This Way had an amazing success, but its impact is not even close to 21's, and TF(M) had already sold more than 13M copies, which makes it selling 1.5M this year even more amazing. The reason why TF(M) sold wasn't only the Born This Way release (if it had an effect, it was only during the release week, when it effectively showed a noticeable increase), it simply is a classic pop album, which is going to sell for a long time.

So, you're trying to tell me that if Gaga, had completely vanished out of the scene this year, TFM would have still sold 1.5 million copies this year?

Maybe not 1.5M (it did have a little boost from the new album release), but it would have still sold a lot. Even when BTW itself was struggling to achieve some longevity, TF(M) sales were consistent. And one of the main things that kept it strong was the tour (Britney had one, too).

Surely you can't compare how 21 affected 19's sales to how Born This Way affected The Fame's.
